If you're 66 or over

The single most-missed category in UK money. Pension Credit alone is missed by 760k+ UK pensioners, and it unlocks 6+ further benefits worth ~£3,500/yr on top.

⚡ Unlock chain — Pension Credit triggers all of these

Claiming Pension Credit Guarantee Credit automatically unlocks: Warm Home Discount £150 · Free TV Licence at 75 · Cold Weather Payment · Council Tax Reduction · Free NHS dental + prescriptions · Help with NHS travel · Housing Benefit if renting. One claim cascades into ~£3,500/yr extra. This is why Pension Credit is the single biggest miss in UK money.

If you have children

UK families typically claim 2–3 of the 9 available routes. Tax-Free Childcare alone has only ~600k families claiming vs 3M+ eligible. Best Start in Scotland is more generous than Healthy Start; never miss it if you qualify.

If you're disabled or have a long-term illness

Disability benefits are assessment-based but worth £1,000s/yr if granted. Disabled Facilities Grant is the biggest single payout in UK money (up to £36,000 in Wales).

⚡ Unlock chain — PIP cascades

Claiming PIP unlocks: Carer's Allowance for someone caring for you · Blue Badge · Motability · Council Tax disregard · SMI premium on UC. The PIP claim itself is hard but the unlock chain is worth ~£5,000/yr extra.

If you care for someone

13.6M UK unpaid carers per Carers UK State of Caring 2024. Most claim nothing. Even if Carer's Allowance is below the earnings cap for you, Carer's Credit protects your NI for State Pension.

If money is tight

Working-age low income unlocks the broadest base — UC, Council Tax Reduction, social tariffs, energy grants, charity grants. The Better Off Scan is the single best one-stop check.

If you own or rent a home

The Council Tax band challenge is the single biggest miss for UK homeowners. 1-in-6 homes is in the wrong band per VOA. Refunds backdate to 1993.

HMRC tax reliefs & refunds

Marriage Allowance alone is missed by 2M+ UK couples. It backdates 4 years (£1,260 one-off lump sum). Tax codes are wrong on ~5% of UK payslips — free to check, free to fix.

If you've been ripped off

UK regulators force banks, airlines and insurers to refund you in specific situations. Section 75 is the most under-used — every credit card purchase £100–£30,000 has joint liability. APP scam refunds became mandatory on 7 Oct 2024.

Hidden / lost money

Lost workplace pensions average £9,500 per UK adult per ABI. Dormant bank accounts, Child Trust Funds (born 2002–2011) and Premium Bonds all have free UK-wide tracing services.

If you're in crisis today

Emergency UK routes pay out fast. Breathing Space pauses creditors for 60 days. UC Advance pays within 3 working days. Every English council has a Household Support Fund (active until 31 Mar 2026).
