Frequently Asked Questions
How much is Pension Credit worth in 2026?
From April 2026, Guarantee Credit tops weekly income up to £218.15 for a single person and £332.95 for a couple. Additions of £81.50 a week for severe disability and £45.60 a week for caring can raise those thresholds.
Do savings stop me getting Pension Credit?
No. There is no upper savings limit for Guarantee Credit. The first £10,000 is ignored completely; above that, every £500 is treated as £1 a week of income. Large savings reduce the award rather than blocking it.
Will I get the Winter Fuel Payment in 2026?
Most pensioners will. Universal eligibility was restored for winter 2026/27 for those born on or before 27 June 1960 and living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland during the qualifying week of 21 to 27 September 2026. Scotland has its own Pension Age Winter Heating Payment.
What happens if my income is over £35,000?
The payment is still made automatically, then recovered through the tax system. That test is on individual income, not household income, so one partner can be over the threshold while the other keeps theirs. You can opt out instead.
Can I claim Attendance Allowance if I own my home?
Yes. Attendance Allowance is not means-tested and takes no account of savings or property. It depends on how a health condition affects your daily living, not on your diagnosis or wealth.
